Intermission

$95.00

California’s First Theater sits at the corner of Pacific Street and Scott Street in Monterey, just three blocks from where I live. Built by Jack Swan around 1844, it first served as a sailor's lodging house. In 1848, it was commandeered by a group of mustered-out soldiers of Colonel Stevenson's regiment of New Yorkers who were looking for a place to put on plays and comedies. It later served as a whaling station, with a lookout station added to the roof.

Obviously, this painting is not of the theater itself, but instead depicts the peaceful garden on its grounds where I often stop to enjoy a moment with my dog, Lola. “Intermission” seemed an apt title in relation to both the site’s main attraction and my use enjoyment of the property.

Created with gouache paint on 140 lb. Legion hot pressed Stonehenge Black watercolor paper, this painting measures 2×3" and comes in a signed mat and frame that brings the overall size of the piece to 3.75x4.75”. It ships free.

Colors of original painting may be slightly different than what you see on your monitor screen. Artist signature, year of creation, and artwork title are included on back of painting. Copyrights remain with artist.
