The monsoon and I have a special relationship, with its official start date being my birthday. It seems fitting to me, because dramatic clouds, pops of lightning, and wet desert aroma are some of my favorite things. This scene was inspired by a photo I snapped a few years ago during monsoon, looking west toward Safford Peak and the Tucson Mountains. There’s not much that feels more magical to me than the sight of a rain shaft illuminated in the sunset. Chef’s kiss!

This original miniature painting was created with gouache paint on 140 lb. Legion hot pressed Stonehenge Black watercolor paper and measures 2×3”. It comes in a signed mat and frame that bring the overall size of the piece to 3.75x4.75”. It ships free.
