This painting was a lovely meditation on the way that the ocean pulls your vision and your mind out to that soothing nothingness where the water meets the sky. I titled it “Middle Ground” as a nod to the peace that can be found in this place as well as in this philosophical concept.

Two of my favorite aspects of the ocean to depict in my art are the surprising array of colors that can be found in this landscape and the flash of light that shines through the water as the wave crests; this piece was another exploration of those elements, too.
