This watercolor and colored pencil piece features a cactus that I walk by often in my neighborhood in Tempe. I caught it blooming during spring 2019. I wanted to create a piece with a lot of contrast, which resulted in the abstract background. It reminded me of the colors found in an old ditto machine, so I named it “Spirit Master” in reference to the name of the master copies used in this process. The last image is the original photo from which I created the painting.
